In the early 1970s, the Trinity River was dammed to create Lake Livingston—now one of the largest reservoirs in Texas. But with its creation came the destruction of entire communities. One of those towns was Swartwout, Texas, a once-busy settlement along the river that vanished beneath the rising waters. In this video, we visit what little remains of Swartwout: 📍 A small church still standing on higher ground 📍 A historical marker that had to be relocated 📍 The Lake Livingston dam that submerged it all We walk the site, explore the story behind the town, and reflect on what it means for history to be flooded and nearly forgotten. 🎥 Featuring: Cinematic drone footage of the dam and remaining structures First-person vlog-style exploration Commentary on the history of Swartwout, the Trinity River, and the creation of Lake Livingston On-site reactions to abandoned spaces, old churches, and submerged stories This video is part of our ongoing series: ▶️ Sunken Cities of Lake Livingston Uncovering the stories of the lost towns drowned by one of Texas's largest manmade lakes.
