The first PIF to be screened in the middle of The Twelve Tasks of Asterix, in the dead zone of approximately 4.30am, is this classic little number. This was all recorded some time in 1992 or so, and at this point it does seem as though any PIF made after 1979 or so is still up for grabs, hence plenty of PIFs in the classic style, flickering film stock, slightly mushy sound, and take a listen: the little POP at the beginning. Many of them were a decade or more old by the time of transmission and, were they to be seen in a commercial break these days, would seem impossibly antiquated, like a penny-farthing on a motorway. I didn't upload this first time around because I figured it was already on the Tube and everyone had seen it anyway. I'm less bothered about that now. I've turned renegade. Anyway, it's from 1983 and it's called "Strange Caller" and it's a classic, largely thanks to its closing line. A strangely soothing voiceover by Robert Lang, although he does seem to be doing an impression of Donald Pleasance.
