The original Cavern Club was the most iconic music venue in history. The Beatles played the small venue nearly 300 times, solidifying this cellar club as a pivotal part of both Merseybeat and Liverpool history. Unfortunately, this original location was demolished in the early 70s – and while a modern replica of the club exists today, it is not the original dark, dingy Victorian cellar that The Beatles made famous. Because the original club has been gone for decades, a lot of mystery now surrounds it. Why was the Cavern Club in an old cellar? How did one get inside? Where was the original location? What did the Cavern Club look like on the inside? (We've all seen the famous footage of The Beatles, but what about the rest of the venue?) Why was it torn down, despite such historic significance? In this video series, I'll attempt to answer all these questions. We're going to discuss a history of this club, do a deep dive on Mathew Street and Liverpool's history, talk about the massive amount of research that exists surrounding the Cavern Club, examine old maps and blueprints, and even check out aerial photos of the location before it was demolished. And that's just the first episode! It should be mirrored, and I'll display it that way when discussing the club's demolition. Thanks Andy! LINKS Historic England's Aerial Photo Explorer: https://historicengland.org.uk/images...
