(18 Jan 1997) Natural Sound Disneyland Paris launched its fifth birthday celebration Saturday with a spectacular unveiling of its latest attraction. Revealed through a curtain of fireworks, the Fool's Castle, inspired by Disney's hit movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame, has replaced Sleeping Beauty's Castle at the European theme park. The crowds braved the cold weather to see the promised magical transformation. Disneyland Paris was launching its fifth anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of it's latest attraction. With the help of Clopin from the Disney movie 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' and in a blaze of fireworks, Sleeping Beauty's castle was transformed into the Chateau Fou - or The Fool's Castle. Afterwards a parade featuring the cast of characters from the movie entertained on-lookers. The event is the first in a programme of celebrations planned throughout the year to mark the park's fifth anniversary. Philippe Bourguignon, chairman of Disneyland Paris, said the park - which has experienced well-publicised financial troubles - has turned its fortunes around to become financially viable. After reducing the entry price into the theme park, attendance figures have increased and the company recently announced a 77% increase in net income. Last year an estimated 12 million people visited Disneyland Paris, situated 20 miles east of the French capital.
