Non-Wadi Livelihood Development Programme – Dongri Grama Panchayath | Ankola Block In Dongri Grama Panchayath of Ankola Block, Uttara Kannada District, MANUVIKASA, with the support of NABARD, is implementing a Non-Wadi Livelihood Development Programme aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable rural households through sustainable and climate-resilient livelihood activities. Under this initiative, 150 households have been selected to strengthen their livelihoods through diversified income-generating activities and capacity-building support. The project focuses on promoting sustainable practices that enhance household income while ensuring environmental conservation and long-term resilience. Key interventions under the programme include the promotion of honey cultivation, backyard poultry development, and vermicomposting to generate supplementary income for families. Capacity-building trainings are regularly conducted on sustainable agriculture practices, seed conservation, and improved livelihood management to enhance community skills and knowledge. To support nutrition security, kitchen gardens have been developed at the household level, enabling families to grow fresh vegetables for their daily consumption. In addition, the project has introduced solar lighting systems to improve energy access and reduce dependency on conventional electricity sources. Energy-efficient smokeless chulhas have also been installed, improving household health conditions, reducing indoor air pollution, and minimizing firewood consumption. This video provides an overview of the Non-Wadi Programme and highlights how integrated livelihood support, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy solutions are helping rural families move towards self-reliance and improved quality of life. Through initiatives like this, MANUVIKASA continues to work towards building resilient communities and sustainable rural development in partnership with NABARD.
