(27 Jul 2000) Natural Sound Investigators worked throughout the night at the crash site of the Air France Concorde in Gonesse just outside Paris. All 100 passengers and nine crew members were killed as well as four people on the ground on Tuesday. Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong, but the first indications are that a problem with the No. 2 engine, which is on the left side, may have been key. Most of the passengers were middle-class Germans eager for their first supersonic ride. They boarded the needle-nosed Concorde and settled into its admittedly cramped seats for the journey of around 3 1/2 hours from Paris to New York City. The passengers would have been looking forward to champagne over the Atlantic and gourmet food served on crystal, china and linen. Some were possibly looking ahead to the next leg of their luxury voyage of discovery - the kind of trip you save your whole life for.
