Kaavi, a local art seen in Goa and the coastal areas of the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka derives its name from the word ‘Kaav’, which is the Geru, brownish-red pigment or hematite. In the vernacular, it means red mud. This being the principal component of colour material, the art gets its name. Kaavi Art can be seen in Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. I visited Mahalasa Narayani Temple @Kumta , Karnataka. Mahalasa Temple was originally located in Verna, Goa; from where it had to be shifted to Kumta to avoid its destruction by the Portuguese. I explored this temple last year and decided to be your 'Sutradhar' - a story teller narrating stories etched on the temple walls. Do comment on what you think of this video.
