Giving Tuesday Yep Video Production Students

Dear Friends and Supporters, My name is Randy Ruiz, and I’ve been the video production instructor for the Youth Employment Program (YEP) for the past few years. Working with this program brings me joy because I help students discover their passions and develop skills beyond video production. They learn vital skills like communication, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork—skills they can carry into any future career. I work with a new group of young people each year, preparing them for the workforce. But we face one recurring challenge: funding. We often need extra resources to provide snacks for participants or to update the technology they rely on. Cameras, computers, and tablets are essential tools in today’s job market, and having access to current technology makes a world of difference in preparing these students for real-world opportunities. With your generous support, we can give these aspiring professionals the resources they need to thrive. Whether upgrading our equipment or simply ensuring they’re fed and focused, your contribution will help us continue shaping the next generation of creative thinkers and problem solvers. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us keep this life-changing program strong! My name is Kaye Regalado, and I’m a new UCI graduate in Literary Journalism and Film and Media Studies. After graduating, I wasn’t sure where to turn. College helped me figure out what I loved doing, but I still lacked work experience. I was sending out job applications to anything I could, but I never heard back. I needed money for rent. Facing some family difficulties, I didn’t share the security some of my peers felt. I didn’t have a place I could go home to after college. I felt alone and isolated, unsure of what to do next. OCCTAC has been an invaluable resource during this period of my life. With OCCTAC’s help, I’ve been able to tackle the various problems in my life. As I’m building up my skills to enter the workforce, I can get paid for my efforts. I’m able to invest into my own success without sacrificing my financial well-being. I’ve been able to practice skills I never got the time to develop during my time in college. Currently, I’m taking a video production and a digital arts class, gaining practical skills that I hope to use as I enter the working world. As I do this, I find my work here very fulfilling for me. I’m able to express myself fully, freely, and artistically. But OCCTAC has been helpful beyond just merely my career development. Rooted deeply in the Santa Ana community, OCCTAC has been a place where I feel like I really belong. All the staff are endlessly supportive, always in my corner, and are always providing me resources to ensure I’m successful and comfortable. All that support, all my fellow participants — all of that has helped alleviate the feelings of loneliness I have felt post-graduation. OCCTAC reminds me of the importance of community organizations in any community. It reminds me that I always want to give back to the community in all that I do. OCCTAC’s mission and presence in my life constantly remind me that I’m not alone in not just my career journey, but also my life as a whole. I hope that you think about donating to OCCTAC, to support young people like myself — because they really do make a difference in people’s lives. My name is Logan Nava, and I am a Video Production Assistant in the Y.E.P. Program. The Youth Employment Program (YEP) helps me by providing valuable experience in video production, allowing me to practice using basic camera functions, explore different techniques and shots for videos, and collaborate with a team to create video projects and develop related skills. That’s when I heard about YEP from my mom and aunt. I wasn’t sure at first, but after taking a career test, I decided to explore video production, and it felt just right—it was more my style. At first, I was shy, but as I got to know everyone, I became more comfortable and enjoyed myself. The people in this program are so fun and welcoming—it feels like home to me. Being part of OCCTAC has been life-changing, and I’m so grateful for everything this community has done for me. I hope you’ll continue supporting OCCTAC so that more people like me can find their place, passion, and path forward. Thank you for your generosity!
