Can you heat press onto a waterproof jacket with zips, seams and drawstrings? Yes — but only if you manage the pressure and obstacles properly. In this extended episode of This Is How You Press It, Ben from Velflex demonstrates how to apply a left chest transfer to the AS Colour Tech Jacket, one of the more complex garments to decorate due to its waterproof construction and multiple press obstacles. Unlike a standard t-shirt, technical jackets introduce challenges like waterproof zippers, buttons, internal seams and drawstrings that can cause pressure imbalance or leave marks on the garment if not handled correctly. This video walks through the full setup to achieve a clean retail-quality finish without damaging the jacket. In this video, you’ll learn: • How to safely heat press waterproof jackets and rainwear • Why waterproof seams and zippers must stay off the platen • How buttons and drawstrings can cause pressure marks • How to use silicone application pads to isolate the pressing area • Why pads must be balanced across the platen to prevent see-saw pressure • How pressure increases when using smaller pressing areas • Why recycled polyester jackets require a stabilising pre-press • The correct time, temperature and pressure settings for technical jackets • Why heat transfers are often better than embroidery or screen printing for waterproof garments = Pressing settings used in this video = Temperature: 145°C Pre-press: 5 seconds (to stabilise recycled polyester) Application: 5 seconds Pressure: ≈2.5 bar when using application pads Optional: A 2-second post press at lower pressure for a premium finish. = Garment featured = AS Colour Tech Jacket (5526) https://www.ascolour.com.au/tech-jack... = Transfer used = UltraColour MAX DTF Transfers https://www.velflex.com.au/uc-max ---------- Heat transfers are one of the best decoration methods for waterproof jackets, as they avoid puncturing the outer shell like embroidery and don’t require curing processes like screen printing. With the right preparation, you can decorate technical garments like this cleanly, safely and consistently. ---------- 👉 Have questions or want help dialing in your setup?
