Back on her old stomping ground - one of 6 Lynxes new to Grey Green (before later importing 3 more from collapsed Merthyr Tydfil Transport in the Welsh valleys), E887 KYW would have been powered with the more expensive Gardner engine had Grey-Green got their way, presumably for fuel economy purposes. They only received two, E888/9 KYW with the other 4, E885/6/7 and E890 KWY, powered with the Leyland TL11 powerplant, standard at the time - exceptionally rare now! Being an early build, E887 KYW comes with some differences. The passenger doors are of a slightly different design absent of any external gasketing. The cab area is more generous, bulbous to the step around the offside wheel arch and the driver controls are National-esq push button switches! Coloured interiors such as this red/orange were also uncommon, restricted mainly to early builds before giving way to the standard and boring pale white. She has some interesting characteristics also. The diff ratio is non standard - a touch narrower than usual although not unduly and at some stage she had a replacement engine from a Leyland Tiger and became endowed with an uprated fuel pump meaning a more immediate power curve. I'm not sure of her final bhp? Interestingly, I recall the previous owner mentioned to me about the gear shifting, certainly there are a couple of distinct patterns manifesting seemingly at random. The turbo whistle is loud!! Enjoy!! 1:02 Ebbsfleet 2:40 Northfleet 4:25 Gravesend 14:45 Strood 19:45 Rochester 23:42 Chatham 28:10 Rochester 33:15 Strood
