When these two offices operate properly, the ministry of the Word of God increases, and the number of new disciples multiplies. In 1 Timothy 3:8-13, Paul lists out the essential qualifications for deacons. These qualifications span the distance of three categories: personal, tested, and domestic qualities. That is, a deacon must be blameless in his character, competent in Christian doctrine, proven in Christian living, and exemplary in his family and home life.
