American Insitiute of Architects New Jersey Chapter Small Firm Exchange (SFx) Presents Five Not So Easy Pieces: Designing Missing Middle Housing in Urban Environments Would you like to explore the project constraints that shape Missing Middle housing typologies? In this session, Will Teass, AIA, and Charles Warren, AIA, of Teass \ Warren Architects will review the design approaches for various types of Missing Middle housing. We’ll begin with attached units (NetZero RowHouse), move on to detached duplexes (Ballston Duplex), and conclude with small multi-family buildings (Le Parc), all designed for compact footprints. Additionally, a case study of The Collection at R Street will demonstrate how incorporating diverse typologies within a single project can enhance an urban neighborhood. Finally, we will share a recent competition entry, GreenHouse—a point-access block with a single means of egress—highlighting emerging trends in Missing Middle housing design.
