Celebrating his 70th birthday and the 40th anniversary of the Floydband, Floyd Longworth went out with a bang (not literally!!). Since the guitarist, Tom Kat, has lived in another state for many years. the band hasn't been able to play out, save for a few 'unplugged' versions with the bass player, Nick Summa, on guitar and Floyd on vocals. So this was one of those 'events' that crop up now and then, and it was a great one. They went through most of their catalogue of songs, some favourites standing out as members of the audience shouted out the names of songs they wanted to hear and sang along on others. The band were tight and it was almost as if so many years have past since the last time they were all together. From coolcleveland.com: 'The Floyd Band, led by confrontational, snot-nosed (literally) vocalist Floyd Longworth, blazed a trail through northeast Ohio venues in from the mid 80s to the late 90s, playing loud music while Floyd drunkenly hectored people about why WMMS wasn’t playing punk rock. The band released one album in 1990 called I Burped and Puke Came Out my Nose (told you it was literal!) as well as some compilation tracks. Then he dropped out of sight, for a good reason: he moved out of state to raise his daughter as single dad. Several years ago, he returned to town, entering a new phase in his life. Now he’s a regular at makers’ markets where he sells the magnets he paints with the faces of musicians and other pop culture heroes. Now he says, he’s having “one last Floyd Band blowout celebrating 40 years of the Floyd Band and my 70th birthday.” Unsurprisingly it’s at the Maple Grove Tavern, owned by Nick Summa who played bass in the Floyd Band. Opening the show is one of the current bands in Cleveland’s loud/fast scene, the Public Squares. Floyd says “It will be an early show Because let’s face it You’re old and so am I. The show will begin at Ninish. Birthday party goes all night”.'
