The materials testing machine is equipped with two test areas. The SCT is performed in the lower test area, and the tensile test in the upper test area. In an SCT, the strip compression resistance is determined on paper and cardboard. The test is primarily performed on corrugated case material (CCM), or containerboard. The paper strip is vertically inserted in the test fixture and pneumatically gripped. The gripping force relative to the gripping surface is precisely defined in the standard. The paper strip is compressed with a short grip-to-grip separation of 0.7 mm. The SCT-value, or the maximum compression force relative to the specimen width, is determined. Now you switch to the other test area: the test program for the tensile test is loaded and the start position is approached, after which the test can be started immediately. With the system configuration builder, the machine configuration is permanently linked to the test program. For a tensile test, a paper strip is loaded until it tears. The paper strip is vertically gripped with two pneumatic grips and pulled until break. The maximum tensile force relative to the specimen width and the strain at break is determined. ➡ Purpose of the test ↦ In the short-span compression test (SCT) the compressive strength of paper in compression mode is determined ↦ Because only a very short length of paper (0.7 mm) is used in the test, greater account is taken of the load-bearing fiber portion of the material than with the traditional test methods (ring crush test, corrugated crush test or linear crush test) ↦ Determination of the compressive resistance has now become established as an alternative to the ring crush test ➡ Short-Span Compression Test (SCT) with ZwickRoell ↦ A very stiff test arrangement keeps the influence of the machine on the specimen to a minimum ↦ Specimen and load cell are located in the same symmetrical axis, eliminating bending moments which may distort results ↦ Optimum specimen parallelism is achieved with the ZwickRoell strip-cutter ➡ Dry Tensile Test on Paper with ZwickRoell In many cases the only result to be determined is the tear strength or tear length, superfluous results can be hidden by the software. The ZwickRoell testing software accomplishes this by means of two functional levels. ↦ Standard test programs (to EN ISO 1924 or TAPPI T 494) contain only test sequences and results which are stipulated in test standards ↦ Changing to Master functionality provides access to all the program's capabilities, ensuring the necessary functional scope for future tests If required, change in length and width can be measured directly with videoXtens. 00:00 - Short-Span Compression Test (SCT) on Paper 00:07 - Preparing the test 00:16 - Running the test 00:26 - Workflow with two test areas (system config) 00:40 - Tensile test to DIN EN ISO 1924-3 on paper 00:56 - Running the test
