Religious obsession is when someone becomes "obsessed" with the philosophy of a particular religion or cult to the exclusion of everything else. It can happen in different times in people's lives -- maybe you are a young person and you are looking for direction, or that you are looking for ways of living that will give you reward and wholesomeness, and a safe life; perhaps you are at the middle-age and you are thinking about how you should live the rest of your life with meaning; or maybe you are an old person thinking about the coming of the end of your life and you are considering that there is life after death, and that is why you go to mass, church, temple, or whatever. I believe that people are entitled to all their beliefs, and those beliefs can add very well to life, but when those beliefs become very narrow and detract from the whole of life, that is obsessive, and sometimes, compulsive as well; and sometimes, families become very distressed when people join cults and never hear from them for a few years -- it is quite traumatizing.
