1955 Film of Carlisle Barracks This film shows various buidlings located on Carlisle Barracks. Featured here is the Hessian Powder Magazine. the Hessian Powder Magazine was constructed for use as a storage facility for sulfur, brimstone and other explosive material. The Continental Congress wrote to Mr. James Wilson, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and General John Armstrong to find the most secure and convenient place for such magazines. The Magazine is thought to have been built by approximately 40 Hessian soldiers captured by Washingtons troops at the Battle of Trenton in December 1776. Additional scenes on Carlisle Barracks include a statue of Frederick the Great, and Thorpe Hall. History lives at Carlisle Barracks and the Army Heritage and Education Center.
