V/Line 'Welcome Aboard' Commerical 1985

Longer format TV advertisement that ran in Melbourne for V/Line country rail and coach services that run through regional Victoria. This period followed from the 'New Deal for Country Passengers' in 1981 where new rolling stock was introduced for country services and some branch line rail car services replaced by road coaches. In this advertisement the then-new air-conditioned N-type carriages which replaced older wooden ones. The locomotive hauling is a diesel-electric A-class - a then new rebuild of the older B-class which were the first mainline diesel-electric locomotives for the Victorian Railways. The rebuild program was cancelled in 1985 after the delivery of 11 rebuilt locomotives - these were then supplemented by the new N-class locomotives. The V/Line orange and grey livery first appeared in 1983 with the replacement of the short-lived VicRail brand and its associated orange and silver 'teacup' livery which was introduced with the New Deal program in 1981, despite the VicRail brand being introduced in 1976 for the Victorian Railways.
