Played by Pure. This is a continuation of the previous Crystal video, which goes through the Kanto part of the game (Johto can be seen here • Pokémon Crystal Version [Johto] ). This is using the same VGA Adapter GBC direct capture method from the hardware as the previous Crystal video, which is the same as Yellow from 2014. There is no major alteration to the video quality, resulting in expected basic upscale of the game's low native resolution (not pixel to pixel). Before going to Kanto, I quickly catch a Lapras in Union Cave since it only appears inside on Fridays, which was the day of the week during the recording. The rest of the video goes through Kanto as normal. Some "rules" for the run are: Always use your starter Do not go out of the way to grind for levels. Use six Pokemon somewhat evenly. Do not just use one or two over-leveled Pokemon. Do certain side objectives. Keep shift on. Don't skip the main dialogue. Shift is used over Set for the same reasons as Yellow. However, there will be at least one "Set" challenge video for a battle in another Gen 2 video, using Pokemon Silver instead. I chose not to do both Johto/Kanto in one sitting, as it would have certainly surpassed the 12 hour limit at the pacing I chose. Otherwise, it would have been considered, though arduous. Kanto is about half the length of Johto, arguably less depending on the approach. The game expects you to not complete its regions in a single sitting, and expects you to revisit areas for rematches and unique events depending on the day of the week or time. This would have the player naturally level up their most used Pokemon to bridge the gap somewhat between the later Kanto battles, which infamously have a very large jump in levels, though it's clear you're intended to be out-leveled in the final battle. This run displays just how out-leveled a mostly evened out team can be if one chooses to run through everything without stopping to do much else, despite otherwise being a "Normal" playthrough of a Gen II game.
