Coffee Before the Cup – How It All Begins. Join me on a scenic walk through woodlands as we begin to explore the fascinating coffee history. We'll trace the origin of coffee, learning about the diverse coffee varieties and the intricate process of coffee production. Discover the rich coffee culture surrounding coffee beans and understand where does coffee come from. Today I take a step back from the moka pot and talk about coffee itself. In the previous video, I explained how the Italian moka pot works and why it has become such an important part of everyday life. Before answering more practical questions about coffee choice, grind size, and brewing, I thought it was worth pausing for a moment and asking a simpler question: what is coffee, really, and where does it come from? In this video I talk about the origins of coffee, how it was first discovered, and how it slowly became part of daily human life. From the meaning of the word “coffee” to the early use of the coffee plant in East Africa, and from the rise of coffee houses to the way coffee travels and tastes differently around the world, this is a quiet introduction to the drink many of us start our day with. I also explain what coffee actually is before it becomes brown, roasted, and ground. Coffee starts as a plant and as a fruit, and it only grows in certain parts of the world where climate, altitude, rainfall, and soil allow it to thrive. These conditions are what give coffee its variety of flavours and character, much like wine or olive oil. Coffee has always been more than a drink. It has been shared, talked over, and used as a reason to meet, think, and stay awake together. I wanted to start here, with coffee itself, because everything else comes after that. In the next video, I will begin answering some of the practical questions many of you asked after the moka pot video, starting with which coffee works best in a moka pot and why. Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts.
