Aurizon’s fleet of six GWBs and four GWUs were kept busy throughout 2025, working iron ore trains between Wirrida and Whyalla through Australia’s remote outback. Seven return services run each week, using distributed power with two locomotives on the head end, with one to two units working on the rear depending on the train's size. Each trip moves around 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of product, with total train weights ranging from roughly 10,000 to 13,000 tonnes. For much of the journey, the trains traverse the Darwin and Trans Australian Railways, where the vast outback is often the only thing for 100's of kilometres in every direction. Every GWB and GWU in Aurizon’s fleet hauled these services during 2025, and all ten units are seen in this production across multiple trips into the outback.
