The project investigates how fungi, specifically the pigment Xylindein from Chlorociboria aeruginascens, can be used as an active material in printed organic solar cells. By combining gene editing, biotechnology, and roll-to-roll slot-die coating, researchers aim to replace conventional synthetic materials with biodegradable, bio-derived alternatives. We follow the journey from gene expression and pigment extraction to early-stage solar cell fabrication and testing using infinityPV’s slot-die coater. This work points to a future where solar energy technologies are not only efficient and scalable, but also environmentally responsible and locally produced.
