Jethro bought the Ardoch Lodge back in 1989 and set it up as the Jethro's Comedy Club House, Restaurant and Motel, now lying derelict since the club closed in 2012. The restaurant did very well and was renowned for it's carvery for many years as did the club, although Jethro did a lot of touring around the UK and had lots of his shows on many DVD's over the years. The Motel opened in the 1970 and was called the Coach House Motel, and comprised of 56 bedrooms, the style of the accommodation was typical of many motel developed along major routes during the 1970's. The motel lies to the rear of Jethro's public house, cabaret venue and restaurant. There was a former Petrol station ( Lewdown Service Station ) which closed in 1993 after the opening o the Okehampton bypass in the early 1990's. Prior to the early 1990's, the motel was located alongside the busy A30 which was the main road for motorists travelling to Cornwall, however the road suffered from heavy traffic congestion and a new bypass was subsequently built, this became the new A30 dual carriageway we know today. Since the opening of the new bypass, the former A30 is mainly used by local traffic and businesses that were located on it which previously benefited from passing motorists suffered as a result. All but one of the eight petrol stations located on the road closed in the early 1990's and the motel similarly closed in 1996. Jethro purchased the adjacent land behind his comedy club in which the derelict motel stood back in 2004 and spent quite a lot of money renovating some of the old cabins and putting new roofs on 3 of the original structures and refitted some of them, converted two cabins which originally comprised of a single bedroom and Bathroom into two bedrooms, Bathroom, along with open plan Kitchen and Lounge, this was for some of his staff involved in the running of his sideline and love of breeding and showing horses, at various shows like the Royal Cornwall Sjhow and Devon County show, where his horses won lots of the competitions and many of the rosettes are still hanging up in one of the buildings. There is not much left to see of the old club house, restaurant and public bar as most of the fixtures were sold in a big auction in 2020 when Jethro's announced his retirement after 50 years of entertaining people with his stories and various jokes about his friend Denzil Penburthy. Jethro continued to live on site after the Ardoch Lodge and the Comedy Club closing and just continued with his passion for breeding horses and exhibiting them in the county shows up until 2020 when he decided to put the property on the market for 1.5 million after aquiring various planning applications for redeveloping the site into housing, converting some of the original buildings left onsite such as the Ardoch Lodge into flats and the big stable building into apartments, Jethro lost his fight with Covid on the 14th December 2021 aged 73, the Cornish comedian who turned the air blue with streams of filthy jokes which left audiences howling with laughter, left a fortune of more than £3.3 million in his will following his death.
