Verheyen - Copland - Van der Feen - McPherson This performance was live on February 24th, 2018. Robin Verheyen can switch effortlessly between jazz, rock and Bach, but concentrates on acoustic improvisation with his New York quartet. The Flemish saxophonist performed recently at the BIMHUIS, accompanied by his band TaxiWars, which features dEUS frontman and cult indie legend Tom Barman. This BIMHUIS performance is a presentation of When Birds Leave, his new album with pianist Copland, double bassist Drew Gress and drummer Billy Hart*. The tireless Hart was performing live with Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and other such soul greats more than half a century ago, and has made albums with the likes of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Pharoah Sanders. He performs regularly at the BIMHUIS, often with younger musicians such as Mark Turner and Ethan Iverson (The Bad Plus).
