Trains on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line December 2013

Fall and winter has come to the Harrisburg Line, bringing beautiful low sun or snowy weather. A variety of trains and locations will be visited in this video, including foreign power which can be seen leading trains. The Lackawanna heritage unit also makes an appearance, although it is trailing. Anyway, sit back and enjoy the action of big freights grinding the former Reading mainline between Harrisburg and Reading, Pennsylvania. Train information and video time stamps for navigation can be found below. 11/24/13 - Mixed freight train 19G thunders past the feed mill in Richland under a beautiful fall sky. 0:00 - 19G - Oak Island, NJ - Conway, PA NS C44-9W 9162 NS C44-9W 8900 11/27/13 - Loaded garbage train 66J heads west with a lot of locomotives across Railroad Street in Myerstown by the defect detector at MP 79.9. This train is scheduled to stop running starting 2014 due to the near-full capacity of the landfill. 2:05 - 66J - Kearny, NJ - Mingo Jct., OH NS C44-9W 9323 NS SD60I 6752 NS C44-9W 9730 NS C44-9W 9754 NS ES44DC 7569 12/19/13 - With some snow on the ground, 19G heads west through the 4-way crossing in Richland with a fairly new SD60 rebuild on the point. Also notice the rare SD45-2 trailing, which is headed from CSAO for inspection/repair at Juniata or Enola Diesel. The crossing also recently received new signals, gates, and cantilevers earlier in the month. 3:30 - 19G - Oak Island, NJ - Conway, PA NS SD60E 6903 NS C40-8W 8316 NS SD45-2 1705 12/21/13 - Empty ethanol tankers head west through Richland just before sunset with some nice foreign power, including a former Burlington Northern executive unit. 5:30 - 65K - Seawaren, NJ - Chicago, IL NS C40-8W 8410 BNSF SD70MAC 9585 BNSF ES44AC 6074 12/21/13 - Automotive and intermodal train 290 heads east into Richland, passing barren fields at sunset under a beautiful sky. 6:55 - 290 - Birmingham, AL - Croxton, NJ NS ES44DC 7708 NS C44-9W 9891 12/23/13 - 290 heads east with a surprise leader: a former Southern Pacific AC4400CW with a K3LA horn. 8:40 - 290 - Birmingham, AL - Croxton, NJ UP AC4400CW 6193 (SP) NS C40-8W 8425 12/24/13 - 211 heads west with a lot of power by the generating station at Prescott on a windy Christmas Eve. This would be the last train to run the Harrisburg Line before the Christmas shutdown. 10:10 - 211 - Croxton, NJ - Atlanta, GA NS ES44DC 7699 NS C44-9W 9739 NS ES44AC 8143 NS C40-8W 8325 UP AC4400CW 6193 (SP) 12/26/13 - Normally nocturnal intermodal train 20R heads east past some farmland by MP 78 after the Christmas shutdown. 11:45 - 20R - Chicago, IL - Elizabeth, NJ (E-Rail) NS C44-9W 9515 NS SD60M 6797 12/27/13 - On a beautiful afternoon, hot intermodal train 21M heads west across Ramona Road underneath the 81 signal bridge. 13:40 - 21M - Croxton, NJ - Chicago, IL (63rd Street) NS ES44DC 7710 NS C40-9 8824 NS C44-9W 8991 12/27/13 - 16T heads east past the bare, snow covered fields at Prescott. A 94M MW equipment train is in AES siding by the power plant. 15:55 - 16T - Birmingham, AL - Allentown, PA NS C40-8W 8316 NS SD60E 6903 NS C40-9 8866 12/28/13 - 34A heads west through the multiple crossings in Sinking Spring. Notice the motherless slug in tow. 17:55 - 34A - Allentown, PA - Baltimore, MD (Bayview) NS SD70M 2621 NS ES44DC 7561 NS RPU-6 862 12/28/13 - 38G heads east on the lower Harrisburg Line around MP 54 with Union Pacific locomotives leading the way. 20:15 - 38G - Allentown, PA - Camden, NJ UP SD70ACe 8349 UP SD70M 4799 NS C44-9W 9319 12/29/13 - 212 heads east early in the morning through a rock cut just west of Sheridan with the Lackawanna Heritage unit trailing. 22:20 - 212 - Atlanta, GA - Croxton, NJ NS SD70M 2585 NS C40-8W 8325 NS SD70ACe 1074 (DL&W) As always, thanks for watching!!!
