And hers’s the fourth and final. This one’s a real treat for any hardcore Fontaines D. C. fans. An early live favourite but for reasons unclear, was never recorded, and probably never will because sonically speaking, the band have moved on. So enjoy this lost classic, superbly executed in the tiniest of venues. It’s easy to see how they were destined for greatness. You can tell when a lyric is really good, when it’s good without musical accompaniment and this is pure poetry. “The answer lies in the nest of thorns The Baltic breeze and the broken hearts So says I to the Darcey Boys Paying out their lives to the Peddler's toys You once were a child all feather and shield To your keen eye was the whole world new You sit around town, you've not a smile to spare Your melted prayer on the city hall square [Chorus] You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it Look at your face You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it Look at your face You mean nothing by it You don't mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it Look at your face You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it You mean nothing by it Look at your face I was so far past on the sunny hill rail Where the old train tracks go no place cold Let life leave a bit of love for you And then you'll not be heard and you'll not be true The Darcey Boys got a wind so far But I'm still drinking in the same old bar And there, a lost love to these long nights still All things considered, I wish you well [Repeat Chorus] A sand-downed fury like a dead man's cast So the body-bob curse will be down to the trail It all came rushing in a stream of fire I make the last draft in the grasper's buyer Back in the day, all the people would sing Back, ring the bell, that's the gun that we'd ring I see us all safe living through the mire A laughing breeze and some sad desires” [Repeat Chorus]
