On the soil of Bengal was born a saint whose life is still surrounded by mystery. Some people called him mad, some called him “khyapa”, but to his devotees he was the living symbol of divine and miraculous power. The man who attained spiritual perfection sitting on the Panchamundi asana in the great cremation ground of Tarapith, and whose single call was believed to bring down the Mother’s blessings—he was Bamakhepa. His life is an extraordinary mix of folklore, miracles, strange prophecies, and intense tantric practices.
