A gorge cuts through the heart of Boonton New Jersey. The Rockaway River rages over a 25-foot drop creating a commanding waterfall. Old ironworks ruins, scant remnants of a canal system and strange tunnels are scattered along the river. A pavilion and children's playground stand to one side. All of these things come together in Grace Lord Park. From the road it looks like any other family friendly small-town park, but just a few steps in and Boonton's fascinating history begins to unfold. The town of Boonton New Jersey started to take shape in the mid-1800's around a growing ironworks business along the Rockaway River. Originally called Boonton Falls, the town's name was later shortened to Boonton as it is known today. The 102-mile-long Morris Canal delivered fuel for the ironworks blast furnaces and also transported finished iron products to their ultimate destinations. #hiking #newjersey #ruins #waterfall #waterfallhike #ironworks 00:00 Introduction 00:47 Boonton History 03:01 Boone Town 04:15 Boonton Falls 05:40 Stone Arch Bridge 06:45 Ironworks Ruins 07:53 Mysterious Tunnels 11:49 Blast Furnace Ruins 13:00 Incline Plane 14:03 Murder Plot 17:00 Wrap Up Alltrails Map of Morris Canal Greenway and Boonton Ironworks via Grace Lord Park: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/ne...
