Today, we're going to explore the top 5 beaches of Maranhão, a state that is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and stunning nature. Get ready to discover the hidden gems of the Northeast! Beach 1: Lençóis Maranhenses Our first stop is Lençóis Maranhenses, a beach that is more like a desert of white sand dunes and turquoise lagoons. This beach has a unique landscape that changes with the seasons, as the rains create temporary pools and channels that reflect the colors of the sky. Fun fact: Lençóis Maranhenses was the location of the Brazilian movie "Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus" in 2005, which showed the friendship between a traveling salesman and a rural worker who cross the dunes and find love. Beach 2: Caburé Next, we have Caburé, a beach that is a hidden gem between the river and the sea. This beach has a small village that you can explore, as well as a variety of water sports that you can practice, such as kayaking, stand-up paddle, and fishing. Did you know that Caburé was the location of the Brazilian telenovela "Tieta" in 1989, which portrayed the conflicts and passions of the local community? Beach 3: Atins Moving on, we arrive at Atins, a beach that is a paradise for kitesurfers, hikers, and foodies. This beach has a wind that blows constantly, creating perfect conditions for flying over the waves, as well as a national park that you can trek through, spotting birds and animals. A fascinating fact about Atins is that it was the inspiration for the song "Atins" by the Brazilian singer Zeca Baleiro, who praised its beauty and simplicity. Beach 4: Praia do Meio Our fourth beach is Praia do Meio, a beach that is a favorite among locals and tourists for its accessibility and charm. This beach has a boardwalk that you can stroll on, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants that you can taste the local cuisine in. An interesting fact about Praia do Meio is that it was the location of the Brazilian TV series "A Casa das Sete Mulheres" in 2003, which recreated the events of the War of Farrapos and the role of the women in it. Beach 5: Barreirinhas Last but not least, we have Barreirinhas, a beach that is the gateway to the Lençóis Maranhenses and the cultural capital of the state. This beach has a historic center that you can visit, as well as a market that sells crafts and souvenirs.
