The Bonny Street Police Station in Blackpool, England has a long history, including: Early history The first police station on Bonny Street was built in 1853 for Constable William Banks, the town's only policeman at the time. It included a small lock-up prison. Replacement by Abingdon Street station In 1863, the first proper central police station in Blackpool opened on Abingdon Street, replacing the Bonny Street station. The Bonny Street station was converted into two houses. Closure The Bonny Street Police Station closed to the public in October 2018 when officers moved to a new headquarters. The Blackpool Magistrates' Court, which was part of the same complex, also closed permanently. Demolition The station is scheduled to be demolished, along with the Blackpool Magistrates' Court, to make way for a leisure development. The development will include hotels, indoor theme parks, a flying theater, virtual reality rides, a gaming zone, and themed dining areas. Filming location The original cells, custody suite, and front desk of the Bonny Street Police Station are often used as filming locations. Design The station was designed in the mid-1960s and opened around 1970. The design was part of a research and development exercise to explore building types for Lancashire's police stations. Anti-social behavior The empty station became a target for anti-social behavior, including assault, burglary, criminal damage, and arson. Police warned that youths exploring the abandoned buildings were putting themselves at risk.
