In this episode, I reviewed the new Dior Miss Dior Rose Essence 2021, and other scents: Introduction 0:00 Dior Miss Dior Rose Essence 2021 4:27 Versace Iris D'Elite 16:27 Versace Safran Royal 21:08 Versace Gingembre Petillant 24:15 Versace Encens Supreme 27:08 Versace Tabac Royal 30:09 Versace Fleur De Mate 33:40 Masque Milano Sleight Of Fern 39:06 Masque Milano White Whale 46:05 Diptyque Do Son 2022 limited edition 53:20 -- Here’s a brief blotter update… I’ll deal with the Versaces first, because they can, to a large extent, be lumped together. Sadly, as a whole, they remain quite flat and listless. The iris, which showed some promise of being unusual at the start, descends into a mass of woody ambers. The ginger never takes flight. The saffron is an Arabian cliche from start to finish. The incense vanishes far too quickly. Fleur De Mate remains pleasant, but what’s more interesting about it is that someone pointed out that JPG Kokorico was made by both Annick Menardo AND Olivier Cresp. Fascinating! (You’ll need to watch the video to understand the full significance of this.) The tobacco is the best of the bunch: suitably dry-sweet, outdoorsy and hay-like. But is it worth £350+? I’ll leave that to you. The Miss Dior rose water composition is as pleasant as it is curious. I’m still not entirely certain why Dior need to give us a rose water scent under the Miss Dior name, but there we are. It’s charming, sweet and fleeting. Finally, the Masques. Sleight Of Fern becomes more butch and hairy-chested as it progresses (thanks to the mosses?) and I mean this as a compliment. White Whale is a complex, intriguing shape-shifter, constantly moving between that odd marine note and the dry, sun-corroded woods. Both of them are striking pieces of work, and a reminder that we should remain grateful for the presence of brands such as MM.
