In this experiment I explored the Chaos Vehicles architecture in Unreal Engine and developed a real-time old-school leaf spring suspension system using Control Rig. The main challenge was setting up the correct skeletal hierarchy and constraint logic so the suspension behaves properly during vehicle movement. I referenced the vehicle template buggy provided by Epic Games to better understand how the constraint system works inside the Control Rig graph. The tyres are using the Chaos Flesh system and are bound to a Chaos Flesh Asset for deformation. To keep the simulation efficient, I used a lower radial tetrahedron resolution along with reduced solver iterations and rig-bound raycasting tests. The system is enabled in the Blueprint using the Optimus Deformer workflow. This project was a great exercise in understanding how vehicle physics, rigging logic, and deformation systems work together in Unreal Engine. Special thanks to Peter Gatchev for the model provided on Sketchfab.
