NOMINATOR: BROOKE HAROLD Riverside Polytechnic High School, Class of 2021 Brooke Harold is a dedicated dental hygiene student who is passionate about promoting oral health, patient education, and preventive care. She takes pride in providing compassionate, individualized care and strives to create a comfortable and positive experience for every patient she meets. Outside of school, Brooke enjoys crocheting, spending time with her family, and staying active through Pilates. She values creativity, connection, and personal growth that inspire both her academic journey and her everyday life. HONOREE: LUPE AVILA English, Puente, & AVID Teacher Lupe Avila is a dedicated and compassionate educator who brings heart, resilience, and purpose to everything she does. As a Puente English teacher, she empowers first-generation students to pursue higher education and believe in their own potential. Our History For more than twenty years, the Carlston Family Foundation operated as a private foundation with two main purposes: To identify, recognize, and reward the most outstanding public high school teachers in California; and to use the collective expertise of our cadre of past honorees to support and encourage the retention of the most promising novice teachers, and to add to their knowledge base as professionals. As of January 2022, the Carlston Family Foundation has changed its status to a public charity and its name to Above & Beyond Teaching. The organization is now in need of public funding to both continue and expand its important work.
