In this video, we're putting the original Pax and the Pax 2 head to head to find out the key differences and help you determine which model si right for you. DESIGN. The Original Pax is about 4 inches tall and about 1 and half wide. The Pax 2 is reportedly about 25% smaller but doesn't really feel that smaller inside your hand. The original Pax featured a pop up design that is bit easy to misplace and hard to close. The new Pax 2 features a flat mouthpiece with a small slit on the side. The Pax 2 also comes with an alternate mouthpiece and works well for what it is but we did find this one to get a bit warmer. HEATING CHAMBER. The bowls are quite similar in design. The Pax 2 offers a deeper bowl when compared to the original. What we don't like is the fact that they downloaded the bowl's door from a metal to plastic material. Both unit's bowl doors come off to easily and are far too easy to lose in our opinion. FLAVOR. The original Pax always have a metallic taste due to the all metal bowl and plastic mouthpiece. The Pax 2 still has that "paxxy", metallic taste especially at the hotter temperatures and is actually harder to draw from. The original Pax have 3 temperature settings and the Pax 2 has 4. There is no clear indication on what these settings are and we found it hard to get the desired effect we were looking for with both models. Both units only do loose leaf which is a downside to both units. BATTERY LIFE. The original Pax has a battery life of about 45 minutes. Whereas the Pax 2 is slightly larger at about 60-90 minutes of use. It would be nice to have a larger or swapable battery for longer use between charging on both models. The original Pax comes with an AC charger dock and the Pax 2 comes with a USB charging cord and magnetic base that the unit attaches to. Also, neither model can be used while charging. To sum things up, the Pax 2 is a minor upgrade to the original Pax. Like an iPhone 5 to a 5S. Some of the new features are welcomed changes but other seem like a step backwards. The original Pax is $200 and the Pax 2 is $280 so both units are set at a premium price.
