SMMT (UK). etc,. First standard was published in the year 1999. First edition - ISO/TS 16949 :1999 it is created to harmonize the different assesment and certification systems in the supply chain for the automotive sector. Current edition - IATF16949:2016. Basic understanding -If a component manufacturer (Automotive industry ) wants to be a supplier for a car manufacturer or truck manufacturer. He has to follow IATF16949:2016 standards.
