Zerious Drouble proudly operates in the E whole-tone scale, a place where every chord is equally valid, equally confident, and equally uninterested in resolving anything. Augmented chords rotate like they’re chairing a committee: E+, F#+, A#+, D+ — all important, none accountable. The rhythm stays reassuringly square, because nothing makes nonsense sound official like a steady pulse and a straight face. Vocals are organised with the same seriousness. Two voices exchange half-bar fragments — the woman asking, the man answering — carefully offset so they can either sing alone or accidentally assemble a complete thought. The lyrics do their best to sound meaningful: “Is this serious trouble or just drouble dressed up in sharp sounds and smiles?” followed by the existential follow-up, “Is this real trouble or just a nervous chuckle?” Sung separately, both voices seem reasonable. Sung together, they reveal the true structure of the piece: confusion delivered with confidence and rhymed into credibility. As the track unfolds, layers pile up, electronics get hectic, guitars get politely aggressive, and the harmony continues to insist that everything is under control. It isn’t. That’s the joke. Whole-tone music never resolves — it just keeps sounding certain until you stop asking questions. In short: if this feels important, it’s probably zerious drouble.
