Removable Joints with Confirmat Screws and Dowels in Melamine-Faced Particle Board

This doweling jig is not only useful for dowels joints. We can also use it to make joints with special confirmat screws for melamine-faced particle board furniture. The woodworking trick is to first drill the holes for the dowels and the screws into the edge of the first board. Then, using some half dowels (with a screw inserted to remove them easily), we adjust the position of the doweling jig to drill the through holes for the confirmat screws into the face of the other board. Now we can insert the wooden dowels into the edge of the first board and use them to position the jig and drill the holes for the dowels into the face of the second particle board. The screws I use are the typical ones for Flat-pack furniture made from melamine-faced particle board. A 6-millimeter hole worked for these.
