The train station at Rayak in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon used to be one of the most important junctions and train factories in the Middle East- connecting the three continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. Artist Tom Young evokes the great days of the trains in Lebanon in his paintings. With art and an on-site exhibition in August 3rd-4th 2019, in collaboration with Train/Train Lebanon NGO, he hopes to help revitalize both the honoring of memory and the project to get the trains running again- for several important social, environmental and economic reasons. This particularly important now as the environmental crisis deepens in Lebanon, with more cars clogging up the roads and no investment in a public transport infrastructure.
