An Ideal Bedtime is between 6: 30 and 8pm. For night wakings, I would expect your 11 month old to sleep the whole night through, or maybe have 1 super quick night waking where he might get a quick feed. Awake Times: These should be anywhere from 2.5-3.5 hours. The way that it tends to work is a little bit counter-intuitive. Typically, you’d think that the first awake time between your baby waking in the morning and their morning nap would be maybe a long awake time. Because he’s been asleep for so many hours. But it’s the complete opposite. The first awake time of the day you want to be the shortest – 2.5 hours. In between nap 1 and nap 2, you might be able to go for about 3 hours. In between nap 2 and bedtime, you could go 3-3.5 hours. White Noise I also recommend that you start playing white noise today – for all of his naps and for all of his night time sleep. Because white noise blocks out environmental noise from waking up our babies. It blocks out older siblings, barking dogs, the doorbell, the garbage men at 5am – any sort of noise that would come suddenly and wake up babies. Blacked-out Bedroom I would also do a blacked-out bedroom for both night-time sleep and naps. Blackout curtains are great! But unless they are doing a full 100% blackout, then even a little light that’s going to creep through your baby’s window and shine through can wake a light sleeping baby for the day. I have so many clients – especially ones living up north in the UK and Scandinavia – saying that their baby is waking up at 4: 30 in the morning all of a sudden. When the parents get a full blackout of the room, when they put cardboard in the window over night, they instantly sleep well. Peaceful Nightly Ritual Every night you want to begin a Peaceful Nightly Ritual for him. It’s a bedtime routine. A series of activities that you do every evening that are proven to relax and calm your baby so that he can settle down for sleep easier. This is what I walk parents through in my free Exhausted Mom’s Starter Kit. https://www.babysleepmadesimple.com/h... Once you’re doing that, then I’d work on getting him to fall asleep on his own at bedtime. Because once you do that, he’ll be able to resettle himself during the night. He’ll be able to take longer naps if he needs to. It’s really the missing piece once you’ve set a healthy sleep foundation for your baby. Transition from 2 Naps to 1 Daily Nap I wouldn’t worry about him transitioning to 1 nap until he’s sleeping really well at night and he’s about 15 months or older. Under the video, you’ll find my Guide on when and how you can transition your toddler to 1 daily nap. You can have a look at those criteria and you’ll probably see that it’s a bit early for your little guy. But if someone else’s watching the video and they’re curious because their toddler is 14 or 15 months or older and he’s starting to refuse naps, then this Guide walks you through how to transition him. Here’s the link to the Guide: https://www.babysleepmadesimple.com/t... Be Consistent and You’ll See Change! In one or two weeks of being really consistent and really working on this, I think you’ll see a big improvement. At 11-12 months, we can expect more from our little ones. We can expect them to start sleeping all night. So these tips will definitely get you there! Let us know how it’s going, and if you have any questions feel free to post them. I’ll be happy to answer them for you.
