Stay tuned to the end for a chance to win a prize! Lighting a static shot is one thing, but lighting a moving shot is a whole different story. When you’re shooting a scene with a lot of movement, especially a one-take, you need to change the way you approach the lighting. Today on 4 Minute Film School, we’re going to show you some tips and tricks for lighting one-takes. In this video, Matt from the A-Team will walk you through how he set up the lighting for a scene with a lot of continuous movement. First, he breaks the scene down into three different camera placements. These placements, or marks, are places where the subject stops for a moment while going through the scene. Then, he sets up lighting for each of these marks individually. That way he can control the lighting for the beginning, the end, and the middle of the scene. Lastly, he merges the three lighting setups together in a way that will flow seamlessly through the entire shot. Lighting for moving shots is difficult because you have to hide your lights from being seen by the camera. Each shot will be a completely different challenge, but there are a few ideas we address in this video that will help you light your shot no matter what the situation. The most important thing to consider when shooting a one-take is whether or not it helps the story. Despite saving time in the edit, one-takes require a lot of work to set up and you’ll want to make sure it’s the right shot for the scene.
