Step 3: Fill up again and record the gallons Fill up again and record the number of gallons you put in. This number will be the number of gallons you used since the last fill up. Step 4: Record your mileage Write down your car's mileage after the second fill up. Step 5: Subtract the mileage difference Subtract the mileage from the first fill-up from the mileage from the second fill-up. This will tell you how many miles you drove between fill ups.
