Robert Ridland, Olympic rider, television analyst for show jumping, award-winning course designer, and U.S. Show Jumping chef d'equipe, was inducted into the WIHS Hall of Fame in 2019. The California teenager first traveled to the Washington International Horse Show in 1967 at age 17 to compete as a junior at the D.C. National Guard Armory, and returned in 1969 to ride for the U.S. Equestrian Team in the Nations Cup. He graduated from Yale in 1973 and attended one semester of law school before deciding to focus on riding full-time. Ridland’s resume in the horse world is unique in its depth and variety of experience. He’s won some of the world’s biggest grand prix classes in the U.S and Europe. In 2008, he and David Distler became WIHS show managers, then in 2013 he took on the role as Chef d’Equipe of the U.S. show jumping team.
