I’m not a CNC expert, and this project definitely isn’t advanced. I found a great deal on some walnut base molding at the ReStore and decided to turn it into a simple, beginner-friendly CNC project: custom coasters. I started by breaking the molding down on the table saw to get flat boards, then glued up wider panels to create usable stock. I don’t own a CNC, but I do have access to one, so I used it to cut out the coaster shapes. Some of the coasters were personalized with a laser cutter, and everything was sanded and finished. This video is about learning, experimenting, and mixing basic woodworking with entry-level CNC work — not perfection. If you’re curious about CNC projects but feel intimidated, this is exactly the kind of project that helped me get started. In this video: • Salvaged walnut from the ReStore • Turning molding into stock • Simple glue-ups for wider stock • Beginner CNC cutting process • Optional laser customization • Basic sanding and finish If you’re new to CNC or woodworking and want practical, low-pressure projects, this one’s for you. #BeginnerCNC #WoodworkingForBeginners #ReclaimedWood #Walnut #DIYProjects #CNCWood #SoWhatsDrewUpTo
