Silence on the Streets is a powerful documentary that confronts the overdose crisis through the voices too often left out of the national conversation. Created by playwright, filmmaker, and community health educator Sharece Sellem-Hannah, the film centers on the lived experiences of Black, Brown, Latino, and Native American individuals navigating addiction, trauma, systemic inequity, and recovery in our inner cities. Through raw personal testimony and insights from experts in addiction, psychology, prevention, and harm reduction, the documentary reveals how race, poverty, stigma, and policy intersect to shape life and loss in America’s urban and tribal communities. This is not just a film about addiction. It is a call to rethink how we respond, who we listen to, and how we work together to save lives. Silence on the Streets has been featured at universities and community forums, bringing together students, public health professionals, law enforcement, researchers, and people in recovery to move from awareness to action. A 45-minute educational version of the film is available for schools, community groups, and organizations.
