Gate automation is usually the first step in terminal automation. Knowing truck and container inbound and outbound moves is crucial for terminal planning and housekeeping optimization. Camco Technologies gate systems include Vehicle Booking System, OCR truck portal or video gate as well as terminal access kiosks. When the truck drives through the OCR portal, the camera portal registers all truck and container data which is transferred to the terminal operating system or TOS. When the truck continues his journey to the terminal gate, LPR cameras recognize the truck with corresponding container data. The driver has to encode booking number and truck driver ID and obtains Electronic Routing Ticket with the information in which transfer zone and which lane to drop or collect a container. Once in the terminal, the driver drivers to the transfer zone and lane, reporting to the grid kiosk and following the safety instructions displayed on the grid kiosk screen. The truck driver first unlocks the container twistlocks and has to push the green safety button during the transfer process, making sure he stays put in the safety zone during the complete transfer process.
