This short video shows a few interesting photos and videos from my miniature V8 engine project. I am an apprentice machinist on my 3rd year. I had already made 3 steam engines when a coworker suggested that I build a V8, so I promptly started brainstorming and sketching how to build one. The engine is 4-7/8" long and 4-5/8" wide. I suppose this technicalyl isn't a "Mini" engine as it isn't based on any existing larger engine. It fits in my hand nicely if it is not connected to the obnoxiously large aluminum base. the base is only there to catch the oil that drips from the engine. The engine is entirely of my own design and uses no off-the-shelf parts besides 75 m4 cap-screws and some steel dowel pins. I used an ink pen, a TI-30x calculator, and 1/4" graph paper to design the engine. I wanted to design this engine pretending that I have no prior knowledge of common engine mechanisms and instead base it off of my previous experiments designing steam engines. I know this isn't running on steam, but air-engine doesn't sound as cool, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't run on steam if I had a boiler to test it with. I am very thankful to all of the youtube machinists for making so much educational and exciting content. I got into machining from binge watching machinists and later steam engine makers. This has led me towards a career that I am enjoying a lot so far. Next engine will run on gasoline
