MEANING OF THE RUNAROUND - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

READ ALONG TO PRACTICE YOUR ENGLISH: So has anyone ever given you the runaround? This happened to me a couple years ago when I went to get my license renewed. I went to get my drivers license renewed and I went to the licensing bureau, the licensing office and I went to the first counter and they told me that I was at the wrong counter, I needed to go to the second counter. So I went to he second counter and the lady there said that I had the wrong papers, I needed to go back to the front of the licensing office and get the right paper and fill out that paper, fill out that form and then go back to the second counter. When I went back to the second counter with that form she said I actually needed to go to the third counter and talk to that person there. So that would be a great example of getting the runaround. I really felt like they were giving me the runaround in that situation because I was running, not literally from one place to another. Usually we use the phrase to be given the runaround, to get the runaround when you are at a place like a government office or maybe at an airport. I know one time I got the runaround at the airport because they said that I had the wrong sticker on my baggage and so I had to go to a different counter to get a different sticker so that they could put my luggage or my baggage onto the airplane. So I really felt like they were giving me the runaround, that I was running to all different parts of the airport in order to get the right sticker.
