Wild Futures began life in 1964 as The Monkey Sanctuary – a safe haven for woolly monkeys rescued from the booming exotic pet trade of the 1950s and 60s. What started as an act of compassion grew into a pioneering movement for primate welfare. More than half a century on, their mission has expanded across a breath-taking 10-acre sanctuary in Cornwall. Today, Wild Futures is not only home to rescued monkeys but also a world leader in primate care, education, and advocacy – trusted to advise governments in the UK and abroad. But now, after the upheaval of Covid and ongoing economic turmoil, Wild Futures is at risk of closure. This would mean the loss of their global voice for primates – and, devastatingly, the loss of a sanctuary where victims of the UK’s cruel primate pet trade have found safety, dignity, and love for the rest of their lives.
