Behind the Mural | Driftin for Charities Housing Alum Rock

In 2025, Local Color facilitated an exterior mural for 1860 Alum Rock, an affordable housing unit created by Charities Housing. In collaboration with Charities Housing and the community group Alum Rock Urban Village Advocates, Local Color worked with artist Driftin to bring "New Beginnings" to life. An East Side San Jose native, Driftin's colorful work incorporated motifs representative of breaking old cycles alongside portraits of Bea Mendez and a Muwekma Ohlone person. Thanks again to Charities Housing for trusting us with this mural and believing in the power of public art. With its vibrant design, "New Beginnings" offers a sense of warmth and pride to residents' homes in East Side San Jose.
