In the mid 1690s, the retired French statesman Charles Perrault wrote 11 fairy tales - 3 in verse, 8 in prose. While his output was relatively limited, his renditions of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Bluebeard, Puss in Boots, and other stories were both popular and deeply influential, starting the modern canon of fairy tales beloved by children and adults to this very day. And then there's Donkey Skin, the fairy tale for psychos. I feel like most histories of fantasy unfairly ignore the impact of Perrault and other fairy tale authors upon the modern genre, so I am starting this new video series to spotlight and discuss the most important works of fairy. This series will be by no means chronological. I will jump around and highlight cool stuff as I SEE FIT. I already have a couple of solid ideas but if you have suggestions I would love to hear them! (Ignore my typo in the chronology section, its "Era 5" and not "Era 45" lmao) 00:00 Introduction 01:40 A Loose Chronology of European Fairy Tales 09:22 A Light Biography of Charles Perrault 15:41 Three Verse Tales (With a sidebar on Fairy Godmothers) 28:05 Stories of Times Past (With Morals!?!?!?) 42:25 Conclusion
