Esta es cómo Santa María apareció de noche en el mástil de la nave que iba a Bretaña y la libró de peligro. Y como singlaban por el mar, tal fue su riesgo, que se levantó gran tormenta, y se hizo oscura la noche, sin que nada les valiese, ni saber ni cordura, y todos creyeron morir, sabedlo de cierto. Cuando vieron tal peligro, gimiendo y llorando, se pusieron a rogar a los santos todos, llamando por su nombre a cada uno de ellos, rogándoles que viniesen a socorrerlos, por sus piedades. Cuando tal oyó un abad que en la nave iba, díjoles: "Tengo para mí que hacéis una gran locura, que vais a rogar a otros santos, y a Santa María, que nos puede librar de esto, es a la que no mentáis." Cuando esto oyeron decir a aquel santo abad, entonces, todos, con unánime voluntad y corazón, llamaron a la Virgen Santa, Madre de la piedad, que les valiese y no reparase en sus maldades. Y decían: "Señora, válenos, que la nave se hunde." En diciendo esto, miraron, como es costumbre, al mástil, y vieron sobre él una gran luz que alumbraba mucho más que otras claridades. Y después que esto se les apareció, se calmó el viento, y el cielo vieron claro, y el mar amansado, y llegaron pronto al puerto que deseaban, lo que les satisfizo, no tengáis duda.
